Tim Renkow hailed as a Bafta Breakthrough

Along with Home star Youssef Kerkour

Comic Tim Renkow and Home star Youssef Kerkour have been named among Bafta’s breakout talents of 2020.

The performers are among 23 Brits selected for  the initiative designed to showcase and support the next generation of creative talent in film, games and television.

Renkow – a former Chortle Student Comedy Award finalist – was acknowledged for his BBC Three sitcom Jerk, which has been commissioned for a second series.

According to Bafta: ‘He goes by the motto that a creative is someone who has something to say and through being honoured as a Bafta Breakthrough, feels as though his hard work is validated and that his unconventional route into the industry has not put him at a disadvantage.’

Meanwhile, Kerkour, whose other credits include Dracula and Gavin & Stacey tweeted:Humbled once again @BAFTA. Thank you so much and congratulations to all the honourees of 2020. Looking forward to getting down to business.’

He also hopes the Breakthrough acknowledgement will help him write and create his own TV show.
