Steve Coogan to star in Richard III film

About the historian who discovered his body in a Leicester car park

Steve Coogan is to star in a movie about the discovery of Richard III's remains beneath a Leicester car park.

He also wrote The Lost King, about how amateur historian Phillipa Langley spent years researching the last Plantagenet monarch before discovering his body.

Coogan has again collaborated with Jeff Pope on the script. The pair previously pennedt he Oscar-nominated screenplay for Philomena.

The Alan Partridge star will play Langley’s husband in the film when it starts shooting next year, he told Zoe Ball on her Radio 2 breakfast show.

He has previously said the film would be ‘about the amateur versus the establishment, and intuition versus academia’.

The Lost King was initially set to film this year but was postponed because of coronavirus.

He was speaking to launch his new Alan Partridge podcast. As part of his promotional tour for the episodes, Coogan  has also revealed he is considering a live tour as Partridge, and a possible return to the Edinburgh Fringe.
