Nish Kumar to front a satirical American TV show

Mash Report frontman signs to on-demand service Quibi

Nish Kumar is exporting his brand of topical comedy to America.

The Mash Report frontman is to front Hello America, a satirical take on the typical morning news show, for new on-demand service Quibi.

He will front the show from London, introducing a rotating cast of correspondents to dissect the news, in a similar way he does on the BBC Two programme.

Kumar – who is also one of the executive producers on the show – said: ‘I am so excited to get started on this show, if for no other reason than I am tired of having to explain how to use Houseparty to my parents and that "lockdown" doesn’t mean occasionally going to the shops when you feel like it.’

Quibi was launched earlier this month  by former Disney chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg, specialising in short-form content for subscribers who pay from $4.99 a month.

Although no launch date has yet been announced for Hello America, the broadcaster will be will be hoping Kumar can emulate the success of fellow Brit John Oliver in casting a satirical eye over the US political scene.

The show will be made by Jax Media, whose credits include Inside Amy Schumer, Broad City, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee  and stand-up specials from the likes of Chris Rock and Mike Birbiglia.
