American remake for BBC Three comedy

This Country is being lined up for a US remake with Bridesmaids and Last Christmas director Paul Feig  at the helm.

Jenny Bicks, who wrote The Big C and The Greatest Showman, is  adapting Daisy May and Charlie Cooper’s BBC Three scripts for a US audience.

One change is that cousins Kerry and Kurtan Mucklowe have been renamed Kelly and Shrub Mallet.

The Fox Network has made a ‘put pilot' commitment to the mockumentary – which means it will have to pay a financial penalty if it doesn’t go ahead, according to trade website Deadline.

The Cooper siblings will be among the executive producers, so could earn a hefty pay packet if the show becomes a hit, as The Office previously did.

Last month it was reported that BBC One comedy Ghosts and Channel 4’s Home could be getting American remakes, too.

All three are part of a deal that US studio Lionsgate struck with BBC Studios to develop its shows in the States.
