The Britain's Got Talent magician about to be a star in Germany

Comedy performer Matt Edwards lands breakthrough role

British comedy magician Matt Edwards is to star in a new family comedy in Germany.

The 2017 Britain’s Got Talent finalist will play the title role in Pan Tau, which has been shot in English, written by British writers, and features more than 50 UK actors.

It is a remake of a 1970s Czech-German series about a smartly dressed man – with bowler hat and carnation – who spoke only in mime. By tapping on his hat, Pan Tau is able to change into a puppet or perform other magic tricks.

According to German production company, Caligari Film, ‘Pan Tai has a naive understanding of our world and his magic, more often than not, creates increasing chaos for the teenagers and their families.

Executive producer Gabriele Walther  said: ‘We had no idea what the new Pan Tau  would look like and the casting list was very long. But when we came across Matt Edwards, there was no doubt that he was the one.’

Edwards added: ‘The story is such a breath of fresh air. Pam Tau lives in the now. He just feels the atmosphere of the moment and a lot of people aspire to be like this.’

Filming has just wrapped in the 14 half-hour episodes which also star Niamh McGrady, Olivia Caffrey, Jan Anderson, Orlando Seale, Jack Kane, Jasmin Jobson and Jacob Avery. They will air on  German public broadcaster ARD next year.
