Hypothetical gets a second series

Josh Widdicombe and James Acaster to return to Dave

Hypothetical is returning for a second series, Chortle can reveal.

Josh Widdicombe and James Acaster will also be returning as hosts of the Dave panel show, which is based on ridiculous fictional situations.

The second series will begin recording on July 31 at Pinewood Studios.

Guests have yet to be revealed, but the first series, which aired in February, included Katherine Ryan, Romesh Ranganathan, Dara O Briain, Rob Beckett, Nish Kumar, Sara Pascoe, John Robins, Tom Allen, Guz Khan and Roisin Conaty.

Examples of hypothetical situations discussed on the show included: 'You have to live in a motorway services for a year. How do you cope?' and 'you have to take a selfie with Nicholas Cage within 48 hours or die. How do you do it?'

Made by Have I Got News For You producers Hat Trick, the first series of Hypothetical peaked at 539,000 viewers within the first seven days of broadcast.

Critics were positive about the show, with the Guardian praising 'a strong first episode' and saying the last of the eight episodes was a 'triumphant conclusion’, while OnThe Box said it got off to a slow start but ‘once they get into the swing of things, the laughs build up… mainly due to the ridiculousness of the situations.’  Chortle's review is here

UKTV said they could not confirm that Hypothetical is returning for a second series.
