One of the most prestigious awards in US broadcasting

Hannah Gadsby has been nominated for one of the most prestigious awards in American broadcasting for her stand-up special Nanette.

The comic, who is currently debuting her follow-up show Douglas at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, has been shortlisted for a Peabody Award.

Set up by philanthropist George Foster in 1940, the accolade seeks to reward ‘excellence on its own terms’ across artistic disciplines.

Nanette has been nominated alongside acclaimed comedy shows Atypical, Barry, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj and the Good Places as well as dozens of programmes in other genres.

The winner of her entertainment category will be announced on April 18.

Previous Peabody recipients include David Letterman, The Sopranos, Sesame Street, Breaking Bad and Serial.

The live version of Nanette previously won the Barry award in Melbourne and shared the Edinburgh Comedy Award with John Robins’s show The Darkness Of Robins.
