Comedy club expands on to rival turf

Liverpool’s Hot Water Comedy Club is expanding into Manchester.

The successful venue will be mounting a weekly sortie into its neighbouring city with a  Thursday-night gig at Theatre Impossible.

Located in Peter Street, the venue is just 500 yards from the Comedy Store, while the Frog And Bucket is also within walking distance – both of which host long-running Thursday night gigs.

The club accepts that competition in Manchester is ‘notoriously fierce’, but say they are confident of making their night a success.

Hot Water started in a hotel function room in 2010 and has harnessed the power of social media, with their videos  of performers attracting 200million views online last year.

That profile has allowed it to open  two purpose-built comedy clubs in Liverpool, running seven nights a week. It has also made a local hero of resident compere, Paul Smith, who played the cavernous Echo Arena as part of his nationwide tour.

The Manchester venue’s first night will be Thursday June 6, with Smith introducing Danny McLoughlin, Adam Staunton and Adam Rowe.
