Royal Television Society announces its 2019 award shortlists

Which comedies are up for gongs?

Some of the best comedies of the past year, from Detectorists to Derry Girls (pictured) and Car Share to Famalam, have been shortlisted for Royal Television Society Awards.

The nominees in key comedy categories are:

Scripted Comedy: Famalam; Detectorists; Derry Girls

Comedy Performance (Female): Lesley Manville for Mum; Sian Gibson for Car Share; May Cooper for This Country.

Comedy Performance (Male): Samson Kayo for Famalam; Steve Pemberton & Reece Shearsmith for Inside No. 9; Alex Murphy & Chris Walley for The The Young Offenders.

Writer (Comedy): Stefan Golaszewski for Mum;  Jamie Demetriou and Robert Popper for Stath Lets Flats; Lisa McGee for Derry Girls

Entertainment: The Last Leg; Britain’s Got Talent; Don’t Hate The Playaz

Entertainment Performance: Michael McIntyre's Big Show; 

The Big Narstie Show; The Voice UK.

Presenter:  Romesh Ranganathan for The Misadventures Of Romesh Ranganathan; Michael Palin for Michael Palin In North Korea and Bobby Friction for Pump Up the Bhangra.

Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing has been nominated  ‘formatted popular factual’ award shortlist, alongside The Real Full Monty: Ladies Night and Gordon, Gino and Fred's Road Trip: The French. 

As well as his nomination as part of The Big Narstie Show, Mo Gilligan is up for Breakthrough Award alongside Informer star Nabhaan Rizwan and Save Me's Alice Feetham.

The winners will be announced at Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane on March 19.
