Bill Cosby: I'm like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela

Sex offender thinks he's a political prisoner

Convicted sex offender Bill Cosby has claimed he’s a political prisoner and likened himself to Martin Luther King Jr, Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.

The disgraced comic claims he is serving three  to ten years in jail because of his desire to see the world a more harmonious place.

In fact, his sentence came after he was convicted of three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and abusing Andrea Constand.

More than 60 women have accused him of charges including rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault and sexual battery – all of which he has always denied – but most allegations refer to incidents too long ago to go to court.

Now he has made a statement from his cell in  a maximum security prison outside Philadelphia, following a backlash from a TV interview in which his lawyer, Andrew V Wyatt, said Cosby was ‘not remorseful because he did nothing wrong’.

The 81-year-old claimed: ‘A low-life District Attorney and a corrupt judge needed me  guilty. Not for justice, but for their political aspirations… My political beliefs, my actions of trying to humanise all races, genders, and religions landed me in this place surrounded by barb wire fencing, a room made of steel and iron.

‘So, I now have a temporary residence that resembles the quarters of some of the greatest political prisoners - Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Randal Robinson, and Dr. Benjamin Chavis. I stand upright as a political prisoner and I smile. The truth is strong!’

Wyatt also revealed that Cosby was working on ideas for new shows from his prison cell, and said that fans from around the world have sent him money to spend in jail.
