Steve Pemberton directs an episode

Filming has today started on the fifth series of Inside No.9

As always, details of the programme are being kept under wraps, but the BBC press office has tweeted an image of a clapperboard from the set.

It shows that Steve Pemberton is directing an episode – his third after Cold Comfort and Nana’s Party from the 2015 series.

The picture also contains the hare ornament that has been hidden in every episode so far as an ‘easter egg’ for devoted fans.

Earlier this month, Pemberton’s co-star and co-writer Reece Shearsmith tweeted a stack of completed scripts for the series.

The BBC announced a fifth series in February last year, after  the fourth series attracted its best ever ratings, averaging around 2million viewers an episode counting catchup viewers.

At the time, Pemberton and Shearsmith said in a statement: ‘We will once again attempt to trick, tickle and terrify you - but not necessarily all at once. Unless there’s a twist. Which there won’t be. Or will there?’

BBC controller of comedy commissioning, Shane Allen, added: ‘Reece and Steve continue to dazzle, shock and knock audiences for six with their uniquely layered storytelling craftsmanship which attracts the cream of British acting talent.

‘There is not a more distinctive or ambitious comedy show being made anywhere in the world right now as week in, week out they create whole new worlds and sets of characters which have instant impact.’

The pair also made a one-off live Halloween special last year.
