Alan Davies to star in David Walliams’s The Midnight Gang

As a scary hospital porter

Alan Davies is to play a scary hospital porter in BBC One’s version of David Walliams’s bestseller The Midnight Gang this Christmas.

It is the seventh of the former Little Britain star’s children’s books to be adapted  or TV.

It tells of a young boy called Tom who winds up in hospital after being hit on the head by a cricket ball. There he discovers The Midnight Gang, a secret band of children who go on late-night adventures in the hospital making dreams come true.

The cast also includes Mark Heap as Sir Quentin Strillers, the upper-class hospital principal; Jocelyn Jee Esien as Tootsie, the hospital cook; and  Haydn Gwynne as Matron.

Walliams himself plays Tom’s wicked headmaster, who wants to take him back to his boarding school, while the comic’s production company King Bert is behind the adaptation.
