Ricky Gervais signs on to Netflix animation

Adaptation of The Willoughbys book

Ricky Gervais is to lend his voice to a new animated movie for Netflix.

The Office creator is among the cast of The Willoughbys, about four children who are abandoned by their selfish parents and have to  adapt their old-fashioned values to the contemporary world,

It’s based on the 2009 childrens’ best seller of the same name by Lois Lowry,

Also in the voice cast are Maya Rudolph, who currently plays The Judge in The Good Place, Last Man On Earth star Will Forte, comedy veteran Martin Short, Canadian singer-songwriter Alessia Cara and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Jane Krakowski.

Due for release in 2020, the ‘highly stylised’ computer animation comes from  writer/director Kris Pearn, who was also responsible for Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2.

The movie is one of six animations the on-demand service unveiled today.
