Stephen Bailey joins Coronation Street

'Dream role' for comedian in next week's episodes

Comedian Stephen Bailey is to make a guest appearance on Coronation Street.

The stand-up will play the MC of the Weatherfield Hairdresser Awards in the episodes which air on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm next Monday.

Describing it as a dream role, Bailey said: ‘When I started in comedy, my one big thing I wanted to do was to be in Corrie - especially being a Manchester boy! I was brought up watching it whilst eating my tea.

‘They essentially asked me to do a Holly and Phil-esque cameo by hosting the Hairdresser of the Year Awards. It was such a joy to essentially do a corporate gig on such an iconic TV show,  and with their legendary characters.’

A description of the plot for the episodes says: ‘Audrey is horrified when Claudia tells her she has nominated her for the lifetime achievement award. Audrey knocks back the wine dreading the afternoon.’

Bailey moved it TV presenting this summer, hosting  5 Star’s Celebs On The Farm, and will return to the same broadcaster for  Celebs On The Ranch early next year.  He is also the agony uncle on Zoe Ball on Saturday/Sunday on ITV, which returns this Christmas.

He joins an illustrious list of comedians who have graced Coronation Street’s cobbles, including Peter Kay, Vic Reeves, Sean Hughes and Max Wall.
