Is Mrs Brown's Boys coming to an end?
Brendan O’Carroll drops hints
Mrs Brown's Boys could come to an end next year, the show's creator Brendan O’Carroll has said.
The team, largely comprising O’Carroll’s family, have been commissioned to make Christmas specials until 2020 – but the star says he’s considering axing the show to concentrate on the spin-off talk show All Round To Mrs Brown’s.
He told the Daily Star that the Saturday-night format was becoming closer to the scripted comedy anyway. ‘It's becoming more of a sitcom and more of our characters are creeping into the show,’ he said.
He has previously said he would kill off his creation Agnes Brown if the BBC deemed that the sitcom was no longer good enough.
‘Our final episode would be the funniest show I've ever written for the first 24 minutes Then the last four minutes would break your fucking heart.’
However, that storyline seems impossible if the character was to continue as a chat-show host.
Mrs Brown’s Boys has run for three series of six episodes, plus a live special and 13 Christmas and New Year specials and a movie.
Last year’s festive episode received 6.8 million viewers overnight and 9 million viewers consolidated, making it the second most popular show on Christmas Day after Call The Midwife.
A live arena tour, Mrs Brown’s Boys: D’Musical, has just been announced for next spring.
