When the landlord's away the comics will play

The week's comedy on demand

The week's comedy on demand.

People Talk

A new podcast hosted by comedian Tom Ward that's part-sitcom, part-chat show, part-sketch show. The premise is that he records each episode in his flat in secret when his live-in landlord Martin (Jeff Innocent) - an ageing New Romantic trapped in 1982 and who loves the company of young men - goes to Tesco for his weekly shop.

In the podcast Tom tries to salvage his faltering career through a series of interviews with some of comedy's most flamboyant characters, starting with John Kearns. Eight episodes will be released every fortnight, with the first out now. Sindhu Vee, Marcel Lucont and Roisin & Chira all feature in future episodes.

The Cleverest Person In The Room

QI have started releasing videos of this studio audience warm-up, in which Sandi Toksvig unleashes a set of near-impossible True or False questions on the crowd.

And this week's third episode was recorded in 360 degrees, so you can take a spin around the studio - especially effective with a Google Cardboard or similar VR headset.

Leading Lady Parts

This comedy short, written and directed by Jessica Swale, has the cream of British acting talent step forward to audition for a dream role.

The cast includes Gemma Arterton, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Tom Hiddleston, Felicity Jones, Katie Leung, Stacy Martin, Wunmi Mosaku, Florence Pugh, Catherine Tate and Anthony Welsh.

It's part of the BBC's Hear Her campaign promoting female voices in the 100th year since the first women won the vote.

Economics with Subtitles

The first episode of this new Radio 4 series has just aired, in which economics podcaster Ayeisha Thomas-Smith and stand-up Steve Bugeja – who has an economics degree – attempts to explain the intricacies of the topic.

Perhaps inspired by pop economics bestseller Freakonomics, they illustrate their explanations with stories of sex, drugs and rock and roll, with episode one looking at how buying cocaine helps the government.
