BBC to launch multicultural sketch show

Hardeep Singh Kohli to front Radio 4's Sketchtopia

Hardeep Singh Kohli is to present a new Radio 4 sketch show promoting multicultural talent.

Sketchtopia will be written and performed by white, black, Asian and minority ethnic comic talent from around Britain – although the cast has not yet been announced.

It is billed as a ‘satirical look at issues around multiculturalism in the UK’, with producers saying: ‘The show promises to be irreverent, thoughtful, and above all funny.’

Last month the BBC put out an open call for new non-white writers to contribute scripts, saying: ‘Currently, voices from diverse backgrounds are not coming through in number via sketch comedy, which has traditionally been a gateway for writers to go on and pursue a comedy writing career.’

Producers Gusman Productions – who also make  Fags, Mags & Bags and Sketchorama – were inundated with replies.

Now an episode is to be recorded in front of an audience in Central London on February 16. Click here to apply for free tickets.
