Netflix buys Ricky Gervais's next stand-up special

Even though he hasn't performed it yet

Netflix has brought Ricky Gervais’s next stand-up special after Humanity.

Last year Chortle revealed that the streaming service had acquired the rights to his latest tour, filmed in London’s Eventim Apollo. It will be released in the first quarter of this year.

Now his follow-up - whatever it turns out to be - will also be distributed via Netflix.

Gervais said: 'I can’t wait for Humanity to air so I can start all over again on a brand new show. Stand-up is my new favourite passion now, so it’s an absolute thrill to tour hundreds of wonderful cities and then be able to have it stream on the greatest platform in the world.'

The comic said he secured the highest fee ever paid for a UK stand-up special for Humanity – although the figure was never disclosed – and the new deal is said to be worth the same.
