Three more years!
HBO has renewed Last Week Tonight With John Oliver for three more seasons.
The deal will keep the hit show on the network until 2020, with 30 shows to be presented each season.
Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming, said: ‘ We are thrilled to have John Oliver as an integral part of the HBO family and to continue to share his comedic brilliance with the world. His extraordinary genius for rich and intelligent commentary is second to none.’
In a statement, Oliver added: ‘I firmly disagree with everything Casey just said’ – before thanking HBO executives ‘for letting us continue to do whatever it is we actually do.
‘We’d also like to thank our staff for all their hard work. We’re incredibly proud of all of you, and rather than tell you that to your face, we’d like to do it in the cold, dispassionate form of a press release.’
Last Week Tonight – which airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK – launched in 2014 and is currently in its fourth season.
It airs in the US on a Sunday night and is taped in New York a few hours before it airs. It is nominated for eight Primetime Emmys at the ceremony this weekend.
It is made by Avalon Television and Sixteen String Jack Productions with executive producers John Oliver, Tim Carvell, Liz Stanton, Jon Thoday, James Taylor and director, Paul Pennolino.
