New gig – just for pooches

Comedians are to perform the first stand-up show… for dogs.

Simon Evans, Zoe Lyons and Phil Jerrod will be bringing their pets along to the show, and are inviting audiences to do the same.

dog punsEvans, who will be joined by his wire-haired Vizsla, said: ‘In stand-up comedy, heckling has become a dying art, but I think traditionally it's important because it introduces the element of the unknown, and that’s exactly what we are doing with the dogs, it could chaos. The dogs are the agents of anarchy.

‘But even if the dogs are well behaved we will still have lots of great comedians who will make it entertaining.’

The gig, called Barking!, is being staged at Brighton Open Air Theatre on the afternoon of June 18, and follows a similar concert for dogs by Laurie Anderson last year.

Lyons will be bringing her dog, Mr Groucho Barx, and Jerrod will be accompanied by his pooch, Burt Reynolds.

Tickets, priced  £12 and £10 for concessions are available here.

Organisers say: ‘Well-behaved dogs of any age on leads are welcome at this event. Non-owners are welcome but have been warned.’
