Limmy on tour... kinda

The best of the week's live comedy

The best of the week's live comedy.

Sunday May 7

GLASGOW: Limmy is out on the road with a book tour to promote his latest short stories anthology, That’s Your Lot. He’s at the Oran Mor all week, except for Wednesday and Thursday when he’s at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen.

BRIGHTON: The Brighton Fringe continues all week… indeed all month. See the website here. But for tonight, why not try the quintessentially English clowning of The Establishment at The Warren at 9.45pm, Milo McCabe’s 1930s throwback character Troy Hawke at Caroline of Brunswick at 7.30pm, or for the sheer show title alone, Miranda Kane's Flying Penis at the same venue at 2.30pm.

Monday May 8

LONDON: We have reached the semi-finals of the Chortle Student Comedy Award… and unlike some talent hunts we could mention, there are just two of them - ensuring the creme de la creme of university comedians, gathered from campuses around the country. The gigs are tonight and tomorrow at the RS Hispaniola, which is moored on the Thames by Embankment station. Tickets here, or on the door.

Tuesday May 9

LONDON: John-Luke Roberts Builds a Monster starts a five-night run at the Soho Theatre, in which the ultra-creative (if criminally under-rated) comedian performs as a demanding, bloated vampire. Great jokes and intense performance make this a delight. Review.

Thursday May 11

SOUTHWELL:If you happen to be in this corner of Nottinghamshire tonight, you have a treat at the Admiral Rodney, courtesy of the Funhouse Comedy Club. Whip-smart Nick Doody, jaunty musical stand-up Rob Deering and promising, award-winning up-and-comer Josh Pugh are all on the bill.

Friday May 12

LONDON: Margaret Thatcher as a game-show host? Doesn’t sound like it should work, but it does thanks to Matt Tedford’s camp reimagining of the former PM - now an Irony Lady than an iron one. A run of occasional dates at the Underbelly Festival on the South Bank kicks off with shows tonight and tomorrow.

LEAMINGTON SPA: Terry Alderton’s tour is as random and all-over-the-shop as his uniquely manic, unpredictable performance. The latest sporadic date for the rollercoaster ride through his insanity is at the Royal Spa Centre tonight.

Saturday May 13

LONDON: The Knock2Bag comedy club celebrates its 10th birthday at Rich Mix… so it looks like that silly name is here to stay. Helping blow out the candles are a host of alternative comedy trailblazers: Brian Gittins, Cardinal Burns, Jayde Adams, John Kearns, Natasia Demetriou, Richard Gadd, Tim Key and Totally Tom.
