David Walliams to host ITV's Nightly Show

Ambitious new format launches next year

David Walliams is to be the first host of ITV’s ambitious new daily talk and comedy show.

The broadcaster is moving the 10 O’Clock news to make way for the Nightly Show, which will be stripped across five nights a week from early next year.

They are hoping the half-hour programme will become as much a TV staple as American late-night shows such as those hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert and James Corden.

It will feature a different guest host in each of its initial eight weeks, with Walliams saying he was ‘thrilled’ to be kicking it off.

Peter Davey, ITV’s head of comedy entertainment, said: ‘We're really excited about launching this bold new show, and delighted that David will kick off what will be an eight week entertainment treat for viewers.’

Each show will be recorded ‘as live’ at 6pm, for transmission at 10pm.

The show is being made by Second Act Productions, who said Walliams was a ‘major talent’ who will ‘set the tone of what we hope will be a very exciting series’.

The news comes on the day the comedians launches his new series Walliams And Friend on BBC One, with Jack Whitehall the first co-star.
