Former KKK Grand Wizard reacts after Trump stunt

Simon Brodkin's stunt against Donald Trump on Friday has put him on the radar of the Ku Klux Klan, who have highlighted his Jewish heritage.

The comedian behind Lee Nelsoncaught their attention when he interrupted Donald Trump's speech at his Turnberry golf club in Ayrshire on Friday, brandishing golf balls bearing a swastika.

David Duke, the white supremist and former Grand Wizard of the KKK, tweeted a link to the story, placing Brodkin's surname in three brackets.

The symbol is used by Neo-Nazis and other anti-Semites to identify and target Jews for harassment online. It is said to represent the way Jewish surnames 'echo throughout history'.

In response to Duke's post, several fellow Twitter users said Brodkin should be gassed over the stunt.

Another Twitter user called him a 'chosenite', another offensive term used by anti-semites; while another, who said he was a member of the 'white racial minority' said: 'Tick tock, Jews.'

Duke is a Trump supporter, saying that voting for anyone 'is really treason to your heritage'. When asked to condemn Duke, Trump claimed he didn't know him to be able to make such a statement. However it was subsequently revealed their paths crossed several times.

Trump has Jewish relatives: His daughter Ivanka converted to Judaism in 2009 a few months before marring Orthodox Jewish real estate developer Jared Kushner.

Other people to have previously been targeted with the three parentheses include Amy Schumer, although some Jewish social media users have also reclaimed it as an act of defiance.

Google was previously forced to drop a third-party extension called a 'Coincidence Detector' from its online store, which would search web pages for names that it identified as Jewish and add the brackets.
