Dieudonné 'incited hatred'

French comedian Dieudonné M’bala M’bala has been sentenced to two months jail for racist and antisemitic comments made on stage.

The Belgian court also fined him €9,000 (£6,300) for the remarks he made during a show in Liège in 2012, which were ruled an incitement to hatred.

Dieudonné, who has faced similar cases in France, was not in court for the verdict.

Earlier this month, the European court of human rights in Strasbourg ruled against Dieudonné in a separate case, deciding that freedom of speech did not protect 'racist and antisemitic performances'. At that hearing, Dieudonné was appealing a €10,000 fine he received from a French court in 2009 for inviting a Holocaust denier on stage.

The comedian can appeal today's Belgian decision.
