Frank Skinner joins radio's hall of fame

Honour for his Absolute show

Frank Skinner is to be inducted into radio's hall of fame.

The comic, who has hosted the Saturday morning show on Absolute Radio since 2009, will collect the honour at a lunch in Birmingham next month.

He said: 'When I heard I was to become a Hall of Famer, I felt properly proud. Does this mean I'll finally get my publicity postcard in the reception area? The one with me looking preoccupied, in headphones? My "Mr Radio" jingle suddenly seems much less ironic.'

Skinner's radio show, currently co-hosted by Alun Cochrane and Emily Dean, was named best speech programme at the 2014 Radio Academy Awards and best entertainment programme in 2011.

He also hosts the Radio 4 panel show The Rest is History, which will return for a second series in 2016.

Roger Cutsforth, managing director of The Radio Academy, said: 'Frank is just so good at so many things – comedian, actor, writer, and television and radio presenter. I am delighted we have this opportunity to honour his outstanding work for British radio.

'The Arqiva Radio Academy Hall of Fame Lunch is a wonderful event where we celebrate those who make UK radio so special and Frank is one of those rare talents that does just that.'

Here is Skinner explaining to fellow Absolute presenter Christian O'Connell why he loves radio:
