C4 confirms Morning Has Broken

Friends actor David Schwimmer has joined the cast of Julia Davis’s new comedy, Morning Has Broken.

Channel 4 has confirmed that the Hunderby creator is making a new sitcom set behind the scenes at a struggling breakfast television show.

In Morning Has Broken, Davis will star as Gail Sinclair, ‘the Queen of Daytime’. She co-wrote the show with Nick Mohammed, who plays one of Gail’s fellow presenters. Schwimmer will star as an American producer brought in to try to save the floundering show.

Channel 4 comedy commissioner Rachel Springett said: ‘Julia is undoubtedly one of our most talented comedic writers and actresses and it’s a testament to the quality of her writing that she can attract such a big star. We are thrilled to have David Schwimmer star alongside Julia in this exciting new series for the channel.’

Davis said she is ‘looking forward to experimenting with friends whose work I love’.

The plot of the new show reflects ITV’s woes with its breakfast shows including Daybreak and its replacement Good Morning Britain, anchored by Susanna Reid.
