Charlie Brooker responds to PigGate scandal

Charlie Brooker has denied that an episode of Black Mirror in which the Prime Minister is forced to have sex with a pig was based on real-life rumours about David Cameron.

Today’s newspapers report that while at Oxford University, Cameron put his private parts in a pig’s mouth as part of an initiation ceremony to a drinking club.

The claims, in an unofficial biography by millionaire Tory donor Lord Ashcroft entitled Call Me Dave have not been substantiated, but have made the Prime Minister a laughing stock.

Last night, Brooker tweeted: ‘Shit. Turns out Black Mirror is a documentary series.’

In the very first episode of his darkly humorous anthology series, The National Anthem, the Prime Minister Michael Callow, played by Rory Kinnear, us forced to have sex with a pig live on air to secure the released of a kidnapped princess. The episode, which aired on Channel 4 in 2011, envisages the hashtag ‘Snoutrage’ going viral.

Brooker added: ‘Just to clear it up: nope, I’d never heard anything about Cameron and a pig when coming up with that story. So this weirds me out.’

And he joked: ‘I hope Jeremy Corbyn is going to read out questions from members of the public again this Wednesday.’

Fellow writer Emma Kennedy dubbed Brooker ‘the new Nostradamus’ for the script.

However others have pointed out that while the fictional PM had to have sex with a pig as an absolute last resort after much soul-searching, Cameron allegedly did his stunt just for laughs.
