Sky orders football comedy

Sky has commissioned a football-based comedy from comedians Joe Wilkinson and David Earl.

Rovers revolves around the fans of lower league football team Redbridge Rovers, and produced by Jellylegs, the production company co-founded by Craig Cash

The series stars Sue Johnston as Doreen who runs the club, as well as Earl (aka club act Brian Gittins) and Wilkinson, who play eccentric fans.

Cash said: ‘In Rovers, David and Joe have created a world that is both laugh out loud funny and as warm as toast. A series populated by great characters played by a brilliant cast. Six half hours of pure joy.’

And Adam MacDonald, director of Sky 1 added: ‘They had me at ‘meat platter’.’

Rovers has been commissioned by Sky’s Head of Comedy, Lucy Lumsden. The series will be executively produced by Lucy Ansbro and Craig Cash, directed by Craig Cash and the producer is Gill Isles.
