Goodbye Sandi!

Toksvig hosts her last ever News Quiz

Sandi Toksvig recorded her last ever News Quiz as host last night.

She has stood down after nine years, 28 series and more than 220 episodes to help to help set up the Women's Equality Political Party.

One audience member tweeted that it was an 'hilarious but emotional farewell.. It was sad but really funny and am sure much of it will get cut out due to swearing and cheekiness.'

During Toksvig's time as host, the programme has become one of the most popular on BBC Radio 4, regularly topping the list of most-requested radio shows on iPlayer.

When she announced her departure, the Danish-born comic said: 'The News Quiz is one of the things I am proudest of in my professional life. Now I have decided it is time to move on and of course, I feel sad but I think it's the right moment. The show is in great shape and like a good house guest, you should always depart when people still wish you'd stay a bit longer.'

Her final episode, which features Jeremy Hardy, Andy Hamilton, Phill Jupitus and Francis Wheen as panelists, airs on Radio 4 at 6pm tonight.

No replacement for her has yet been chosen, and Radio 4 says it will make an announcement later this year.

Toksvig first appeared as a panellist on News Quiz in 1992, when the programme was chaired by Barry Took. Last year she was awarded an OBE for Services to Broadcasting and was inducted to the Radio Academy's Hall of Fame.
