Second R4 series for Aisling Bea and Yasmine Akram

Radio 4 has commissioned a second series of Irish Micks And Legends from stand-ups Aisling Bea and Yasmine Akram.

Another four quarter-hour episodes have been ordered, and are expected to air in February.

The show features modern reworkings of ancient Irish stories, and the first series was nominated for the Chortle Award for radio last year.

Bea said: ‘Myself and Yasmine have always described ourselves as "very Radio 4", so we're delighted to be back in the Radio 4 primetime slot of 11.30pm with our twee-as-the-winter-day-is-short Irish storytelling show.

‘We aim to challenge absolutely none of your perceptions or expectations but hope that you relax and switch off while listening to us.’

Akram added: ‘ I'm delighted that myself and Aisling are being recognised for the historically accurate writers we are and been given a second series. Who knows what this next series will bring? But both Brian Coxes are bricking it.’
