Kirsty Wark to front new comedy show

Newsnight host looks to the future...

Kirsty Wark is to present a BBC comedy show.

The Newsnight presenter will front Radio 4’s forthcoming What The Future? which explores how our lives today will affect the world of tomorrow.

Starting at 11pm on November 11, it stars impressionist Alistair McGowan, stand-up Nadia Kamil and comedy actors Geoffrey McGivern and Kieran Hogson.

Hypothetical topics covered over the four-part series include ‘What if bees become extinct?’ or ‘What if the elderly outnumber the young?’

It has been written by Steve Burge, whose credits include 8 Out of 10 Cats and Bang Bang, Madeleine Brettingham (Harry Hill’s TV Burp, Mitchell & Webb) and Dale Shaw (Anna & Katy, Russell Howard’s Good News). Shaw’s first book Letters Of Not, featuring a series of made-up correspondence, was recently published.

Wark has previously made a cameo appearance as herself in the 2012 revival Absolutely Fabulous. And her former Newsnight colleague Jeremy Paxman presented a one-man comedy show at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer.
