Little-known student shortlisted for best comedian award

An American student who makes YouTube videos has been nominated for a UK comedy award, against some of the world’s best stand-ups.

Jarrod Alonge, a 20-year-old from Tennessee, said he was ‘insanely confused/disturbed by this nomination’ for best comedian in the annual accolades handed out by rock magazine Kerrang!

He is shortlisted alongside Louis CK, Zach Galifianakis, Steve Hughes and Micky Flanagan – the only British comic to make the cut.

The nominees were decided by 60,000 public votes, and the winner is also decided by readers online.

Posting on his Facebook page, Alonge added: ‘Beating Louis CK (my favorite comedian) in any sort of contest would just be hilarious. Vote for me, and get all of your friends to do the same. Use multiple emails. Play dirty.’

The Kerrang! awards will be handed out in London on June 12.
