Mark Watson's live radio stand-up show

And Horne has his own show, too

Mark Watson is to present a live stand-up show for Radio 4.

Mark Watson's Truth About Life will be in the spirit of his previous ‘Makes The World Substantially Better’ series and will also feature Tom Basden and Tim Key.

It will serve as a pilot episode ahead of a potential live series.

Writing on his blog, Watson said: ‘We will begin it at 11pm on February 28th and at the same time, it will go out to the nation. No editing. Live interaction between us and listeners. No cheating by turning up the laughs in post-production. Ad-libbed bits go on the air whether funny or rubbish. No controls on potentially fatal swearing/Richard Keys-esque disasters.Really, really risky. Haha.

‘If it goes well, we might end up doing a series live in the same manner. If not, maybe a series in the old, pre-recorded way. If really bad, I might find another job.’

Meanwhile, Watson’s collaborator Alex Horne is also piloting his own Radio 4 show, with his band The Horne Section. The show has already been a hit in Edinburgh and London, and features guest comics and variety turns alongside the music.
