Sitcom hastily rewritten as star injured

American sitcom the Big Bang Theory has been thrown into chaos after star Kaley Cuoco broke her leg in a horse-riding accident.

Writers have had to tear up the script for the episode due to be filmed tonight, after the 24-year-old actress was hospitalised by the fall. Cuoco plays the attractive would-be actress who lives across the hallway from physics geeks Leonard and Sheldon in the sitcom, which is shown on Channel 4 in the UK.

The fourth series is due to start on CBS on September 23, and the production schedule already had a one-week hiatus scheduled following tonight’s taping, which will give Cuoco time to recuperate.

Her spokesman said she is currently in a Los Angeles hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery.
