Michael McIntyre has ended his hugely successful year with three nominations in the British Comedy Awards.

He is on the shortlist for best live stand-up, best comedy entertainment personality and best comedy entertainment show for his BBC One series Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow.

In the stand-up category, he couldn’t face two more different acts: the brutally offensive Frankie Boyle and the ponderous, provocative Stewart Lee.

Meanwhile, Alan Carr also has three nominations for Chatty Man, while Harry Hill has two for TV Burp.

But the shortlist are led by the BBC One family sitcom Outnumbered, with five nominations. All three child stars earned newcomer nods as well as a best actress nomination for Claire Skinner; while the show will also compete against Channel 4's Peep Show and The IT Crowd for best sitcom.

The winners of the 20th annual awards will be announced live on ITV1 on December 12, at a ceremony hosted by Jonathan Ross.
