Oliver lands US sitcom role

...as does Peep Show's Big Suze

John Oliver is set for even more exposure in America – after landing a role on a prime-time network sitcom.

The British Daily Show correspondent will appear in the NBC show Community when it makes its debut this autumn.

Joel McHale stars in the comedy as a lawyer forced to go to a down-at-heel community college after he is revealed to be unqualified to practice. Oliver plays his friend.

Chevy Chase also has a role in the sitcom, which is already being praised by bloggers on the strength of this preview clip, released by NBC:

Peep Show star Sophie Winkleman could also get her American break in the NBC autumn programming revealed this week.

The Big Suze actress is one of the key characters in 100 Questions, a comedy about a group of New York singles on the lookout for love and sex. Her character Charlotte Payne begins each episode by being asked a question at a dating service, which then leads into that episode’s storyline.

Winkleman, who also appeared in the recent revival of Red Dwarf, will marry Lord Frederick Windsor, the son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, this September.

But notable by its absence in the schedule is stand-up reality show Last Comic Standing, which has run five out of the last six years, prompting speculation that the programme has been axed.
