Another week, another DVD record

McIntyre claims bestselling debut

Michael McIntyre has smashed Frankie Boyle’s record for the fastest-selling debut stand-up DVD after just one week.

McIntyre sold 39,847 copies of his Live & Laughing title in the first week on release, making him the week’s top-selling stand-up, and 8th in the overall top 40.

A spokesman for distributors Universal Pictures said: ‘Michael McIntyre is the rising comedy star of 2008. His brilliantly engaging delivery and effortless rapport with the audience have led to him to be hailed by audiences and critics alike as one of the best-stand-up talents currently performing in the UK.’

His sales may receive a further boost when he appears on Live At The Apollo on BBC One this Friday night.

The new charts also prove the decision to release another Peter Kay compilation has proved lucrative, despite criticism it simply rehashes old material. Special Kay, which collects chat show appearances, adverts, telethon appearances, early stand-up sets and the new single from his spoof reality show winner Geraldine, is the week’s second best-selling DVD from a stand-up, and No 9 in the overall charts.

This week’s stand-up Top 5 is:

  1. Michael McIntyre: Live & Laughing
  2. Peter Kay’s Special K
  3. Frankie Boyle
  4. Bill Bailey: Tinselworm
  5. Russell Howard Live

Last week, Frankie Boyle sold 15,000 copies of his disc in the first day of release.

According to Amazon, Lee Evans: Big Live At The O2 is outselling all the other stand-up DVDs, although it was only released on Monday, so will not be counted until the next chart.
