Connolly tops DVD charts

OAP Billy still has it...

Billy Connolly is outselling a generation of younger comics, to be No 1 in the stand-up DVD chart.

His latest release, Was It Something I Said, took the top slot from Ricky Gervais’s Fame, in its first week of release.

The Official UK Charts company, which also compiles Radio 1’s Top 40 singles, releases a weekly chart of DVD sales.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End tops the overall chart in this lucrative week in the build-up to Christmas, but Connolly’s latest DVD, recorded during the Australian leg of his 2006 world tour, is the top stand-up title, at No 10.

The news comes the same weekend Connolly became a pensioner, as he turned 65 on Saturday.

The third best-selling stand-up title is Peter Kay’s compilation DVD, Stand-Up UKay, selling strongly despite many fans’ anger at what they see as a cynical cash-in on rehashed old material.

The stand-up chart is:

  1. Billy Connolly: Was It Something I Said
  2. Ricky Gervais: Fame
  3. Peter Kay: Stand-up Ukay
  4. Alan Carr: Tooth Fairy Live
  5. Al Murray The Pub Landlord Live At The London Paladium
  6. Jimmy Carr: Comedian
