So they think he's funny

Sandling scoops new act title

Richard Sandling has won the 19th So You Think You’re Funny? competition for new acts.

The comic scooped the title at Edinburgh’s Gilded Balloon tonight, following in the footsteps of Dylan Moran, Tommy Tiernan and Rhona Cameron.

Sandling is in Edinburgh performing his second solo show, VHS2: Planet Of The Tapes, about his obsession with films, and has been running Southend’s Squat Betty club since March last year.

He has previously provided the musical support in Wil Hodgson’s Fringe shows.

Second place went to Ben Davis, a 21-year-old from Bury who has only been performing since February, and third was Chinese-Canadian act Joanne Lau, who started stand-up in August last year.

The competition is backed by Paramount Comedy, Five and Channel 4 DVD.
