Cult minor-crime podcast named best comedy
When The Cops Say No, We Say Yes triumphs at podcast awards
A relatively little-known show has been named best comedy at the British Podcast Awards.
When The Cops Say No, We Say Yes features no big-name comics and does not grace the top 100 charts – yet has become a cult hit.
In the fortnightly series, hosts Lauren Kilby, Karen Whitehouse and Helen McLaughlin investigate minor real-life ‘non-crime crimes’ submitted by listeners in what’s described as ‘part detective show, part gameshow, part panicky race’.
Many cases are poo-based, given the show started life as Who Shat On The Floor At My Wedding? following Whitehouse and McLaughlin as they tried to track down the faecal felon who soiled their own nuptials on an Amsterdam boa in 2018.
The silver award in the comedy category went to Where There’s a Will, There’s a Wake, hosted by Mel Giedroyc, with the bronze going to Joe And James Fact Up, fronted by Inbetweeners stars Joe Thomas and James Buckley.
The results were announced at a ceremony at Indigo at The O2 hosted by Jake Bhardwaj last night.
The listeners' choice award, the one category voted by the public, went to Hard Launch with Dan & Phil, from YouTube stars Daniel Howell and Phil Lester.
Alan Carr won in the food and drink category for Bottoms Up!, the podcast he co-hosts with Lee Peart. Newly Parents, hosted by Sophie & Jamie Laing, won the entertainment category and Bill Nighy was named best host for his show, Ill Advised.
The top award for podcast of the year went to Hold Or Fold, a show from National Prison Radio about gambling addiction – which hosts Ben Jones and Steve Girling have both experienced, and served time because of.
