Lee & Herring return for one night
Stewart Lee and Richard Herring are perform as a double act for the first time in more than seven years.The pair are to reunite for a tribute concert for Ted Chippington, who Lee credits as one of the people who inspired him to become a stand-up.
Chippingon was one of the first stand-ups to adopt a diffident on-stage persona, even if it meant alienating his audience. His act involved performing his own downbeat versions of chart hits as well as a myriad of different punchlines to the same 'I was walking down the road the other day' set-ups.
He retired in the early Nineties to become a truck driver, but has now returned to the UK and has started performing a few low-key gigs - although he is not expected to perform at 'Tedstock'.
Lee said: 'Tedstock is a benefit to raise money to release a four-CD Best Of set by the cult Eighties comedian Ted Chippington, who is the reason I became a stand-up.'
The gig will be at London's Bloomsbury Theatre on February 5 and also features long-time Lee and Herring collaborators Kevin Eldon and Simon Munnery, as well as Simon Amstell, Phill Jupitus, Josie Long and Robin Ince.
