BBC7 to air classic Everett

Digital radio station BBC7 is to air some of Kenny Everett’s classic radio shows.

The station will air 25 five-minute episodes about his space hero Captain Kremen as well as four half-hour compilations of highlights from his time at Capital Radio in the Seventies and Eighties.

Everett, who died in 1995, joined Capital Radio in 1973, first on the breakfast show and then on a weekend morning show.

The new shows follow a deal between the BBC and Capital Radio owners GCap Media to license the classic archives.

John Hirst, head of GCap's external content division Creation, told media website broadcastnow.co.uk that the deal ‘allows another airing for those who remember Kenny and a first chance to listen for younger listeners’.

Kenny Everett’s Radio Days starts at 10.30pm on December 29.
