Four on the Fringe

New radio shows launch at Edinburgh

Radio 4 is to record several new comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Topping the list is Political Animal, a radio version of the live stand-up show John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman regularly host in London and Edinburgh.

The show features satire from a mix of new and established acts, focussing on broader global issues rather than the in-fighting of the Westminster set.

It follows the recent second series of The Department, featuring Zaltzman, Oliver and Chris Addison as a team of radical troubleshooters.

The show will be performed at the Underbelly during the Fringe, and a special recorded for broadcast at the Pleasance on August 27.

Radio 4 will also be recording an episode of its new panel show, Banter, at the Fringe.

Hosted by critic and author Andrew Collins, the programme encourages its guests to come up with their definitive ‘top threes’ in categories from science to cinema to PlayStation games.

This, too, will be recorded on August 27 – as  will a new radio show by sketch group The Trap.

The following day, two episodes of Just A Minute and a ‘best of the fest’ show titled Radio 4 Live will be taped.
