Hicksville, UK

Rare Bill Hicks footage to be screened

Rare footage of US comedian Bill Hicks is to be screened in Britain as part of an event to mark the 11th anniversary of his death.

The material includes home movies of Hicks impersonating Elvis, the pilot edition of his unmade TV show Counts Of The Netherworld and a recreation of the infamous routine that was banned from the David Letterman talk show, to Hicks’ disgust.

The screening – at Jongleurs in Camden, North London on February 27 - will raise money for the Bill Hicks Wildlife Foundation.

Bill’s mother Mary Hicks has lent her support to the night, which will also feature live acts Brendon Burns, Glenn Wool and Mark Steel, plus singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt.

The show starts at 7pm with a screening of the documentary Outlaw Comic, never before seen in the UK, which traces Hicks’s career, cut short when he died of pancreatic cancer on February 26, 1994, aged 32.
