Jeff Daniels to star in Scottish wedding comedy

Shooting near Loch Ness next month

Jeff Daniels is to star in a comedy movie about a Scottish wedding that descends into chaos when the bride is jilted at the altar.

The Dumb And Dumber star will begin shooting The Reception in a castle near Lock Ness next month.

It is being produced by Trudie Styler, Sting’s wife, who previously made the Irving Welsh adaptation Filth in Scotland and whose recent process include Katie Holmes’s Happy Hours, and Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut, Eleanor the Great.

News of The Reception was first reported by entertainment industry website Deadline, as the film is being offered for distribution at the Toronto International Film Festival this week.

The synopsis reads: ‘Set at a grand Scottish estate, a wedding party proceeds despite the unfortunate absence of the bride and groom.

‘Felix has abandoned Victoria at the altar, leaving their parents, family and friends to navigate a lavish but increasingly chaotic reception.

‘What begins as an attempt to keep up appearances spirals into a day of calamity, hilarity, and unexpected connections, as the in-laws, staff, and guests confront their own relationships amidst the fallout.’

No other casting has yet been announced.
