Alleged fraudster denies charges

An alleged fraudster has denied planning to steal almost  £200,000 from Ricky Gervais.

Kenneth Speight, 39, is accused of using three courier workers and a bank call centre worker to target Gervais between February and April 2003.

At London's Wood Green Crown Court, he pleaded not guilty to three charges of conspiracy to defraud. He was remanded until 28 February.

The alleged scam is said to have targeted two other victims and involved a total sum of £349,000.

Six co-defendants have already appeared and pleaded not guilty.
