Comic 'up and joking'

Eddie Large is recovering after undergoing a heart transplant yesterday.

The 62-year-old is still in intensive care at an undisclosed hospital, but was "up and joking" with his wife Patsy at his side, his spokesman said.

Large, who lives in Bristol, was treated for his heart condition last year, and has been waiting for a new organ ever since.

His spokesman said he was hoping Large would return to the stage soon with double-act partner Syd Little. "It's important with showbusiness to get back," he said.

"He's been under the doctors for a long time. He woke up this morning and the first thing he asked was whether Manchester City had signed any new players. "
