Kitson disowns his fans

Fringe show 'will lose me friends'

Daniel Kitson says his Edinburgh show this year will lose him legions of fans.

The reluctant Perrier-winner has always complained that many of his comedic admirers like him for all the wrong reasons.

And he intends to use this year's fringe to find his true audience.

He told The Age newspaper in Melbourne, where he is appearing at the international comedy festival: "You get a bit annoyed with idiots liking you.

"It's just interesting when certain bits, which are innately about feeling fairly disenchanted, do really well on certain nights because clearly the audience is full of people who feel similarly - and on some nights they don't do so well because the audience is full of people that aren't."

"Up in Edinburgh this year I'm going to do something that's going to lose me a lot of fans.

"It's going to be fairly multimedia and one long story, and it'll be in the round, so we'll just see how popular I am after doing that for 28 nights.
