No third series for Sian Gibson's 1990s comedy

The Power Of Parker will not be returning for a third series.

Set in the 1990s, the series about the love triangle surrounding a nouveau riche electrical shop owner, ran for two series in July 2023 and May 2025.

It starred Car Share’s Sian Gibson – who wrote the comedy with  Paul Coleman – alongside  Conleth Hill and Rosie Cavaliero.

Series two ended on a cliffhanger with law enforcement officers closing in on Parker (Hill) but also suggested a new chapter for Kath (Gibson) as she envisaged a life beyond being his mistress.

The BBC confirmed: ‘There are no plans for a third series of The Power Of Parker. We'd like to thank Paul Coleman, Sian Gibson and the team at Boffola Pictures for bringing the show to our screens.’

The Power Of Parker got mixed reviews on its launch. In a three-star write-up The Guardian said ‘this comedy-drama wishes it was a Victoria Wood show’, while The New Statesman called it ‘comic perfection’ – but worried that many of the 1990s references would go over the heads of younger viewers. The Sun was first to report the cancellation, saying that the comedy ‘failed to find an audience’. The newspaper quoted a source saying: ‘Losing any series will feel like a crime for its fans. But for the two million who watched The Power Of Parker, its axe with so many Loose Ends is a major felony. 

‘The ratings just didn't deliver enough bang for the buck and it was decided the series would be chopped to make way for new formats.’
