Bowling For Columbine's record opening

Michael Moore's movie Bowling For Columbine has had the best opening weekend for any documentary in Britain.

Although showing on just 28 screens, the searing satire of US gun culture, took £158,000 at the box office.

And after just three days on release, it is already the seventh highest-grossing documentary in the UK. Top of the list is In Bed With Madonna, which took £1.25million in cinemas.

The film finished the weekend tenth in the overall UK chart, despite its limited release. In London's West End, where it is playing on ten screens, it is second place behind Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets.

In the US, Bowling For Columbine has taken more than $7.5million according to ScreenDaily.com
